Tick of that Clock

I'm tough as a rock
I keep my feelings in my sock
Come in my door; knock
But don't bother stopping
To watch the tick of that clock

Rock -- rock that baby
Till he grows up one day maybe
He'll know stuff yea be
Be the smartest kid on the playground
Get out there and slay

Be cool in grade school
Rollin' up with his shoes,  so cool
All the girls think he's a fool
But when you're that age you don't care
It's all about urban ridicule

He'll grow old like you too
And we all know that's poo
But go on and tie his shoe
Cuz when he can he will want to
Be himself - it's so true

Maybe he'll be tough as a rock
Maybe he'll hide his feelings in a sock
Maybe when he comes in my door, he'll knock
But maybe he'll have enough sense
To step back and watch the tick of that clock

About the Poem:

The race on time, holding onto the days we have with young ones before they grow up, and hoping they will not make the same mistake we did, such as taking time to enjoy every second of life in the case of the narrator of this poem.
